Jeep Compass Fundamentals
The Jeep Compass is available in five 2024 trim levels: Sport, Latitude, Latitude Lux, Limited, and Trailhawk. All trims have a potent 2.0 L four-cylinder turbo engine, delivering up to 200 hp and 221 lb-ft of torque. A 2,000 lb towing capacity gives the Compass plenty of scope for transporting outdoor equipment. The transmission is 8-speed automatic.
A feature that defines the Compass as an adventure car is its Active Drive 4×4 system, which runs as an FWD during normal driving for extra economy, automatically sending power to the rear wheels whenever extra traction is needed. A third headlining Compass feature is its Selec-Terrain driving modes, which optimize 4×4 performance for various surfaces. Three come as standard: Auto, Snow, and Sand/Mud.
New for 2024
Little changed about the Compass in 2024, though it did receive new grille inserts and new wheel designs up to 19″. The Trailhawk trim gained new all-terrain tires.
Advanced Safety Tech
Every Jeep Compass comes with an array of passive and active safety features as well as advanced driver assistance technologies. Standard examples of the latter include Active Lane Management, Drowsy Driver Detection, Full-Speed Forward Collision Warning with Active Braking, Blind-spot Monitoring and Rear Cross Path detection, and Pedestrian/Cyclist Automatic Emergency Braking.
Choosing a Compass Trim Level
When choosing a Compass trim level, consider the type of driving you’ll be doing. The first four trims are trail-capable but mainly designed for paved surfaces, while the Trailhawk is the opposite. Its dedicated off-road features include off-road suspension, extra ground clearance, underbody skid plates, a “Rock” Selec-Terrain driving mode, and Jeep’s Active Drive Low 4×4 system, which lets you drive with precision over challenging terrain.
Compass Connectivity
Inside the Compass you’ll find a large 10.1″ touchscreen, which displays the Uconnect 5 infotainment system. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support lets you access your favorite navigation or music-streaming apps via your smartphone. A wireless charging pad is available from the Latitude trim upward.
