When the going gets tough, the tough get towing. As a leading local Ram dealership, one of the things our customers want to know about is towing capacity, and fortunately, the 2024 Ram 1500 has it in spades. Find out why this model year is a favorite for towing trailers, boats, and more.

A Frame Built for Towing

Ram built the 1500 for towing from the ground up. The chassis is built around a 98% high-strength steel frame, ensuring that the body can take whatever the engine and cargo can dish out. The available air suspension system can also make hooking up trailers a snap, whether you’re using a gooseneck, fifth wheel, or conventional hookup.

The multifunction tailgate offers unique advantages in hooking up trailers, too. The tailgate can not only swing down to 90 or 180 degrees as needed, but an available 60/40 split swing-away design allows truck bed access even with a trailer attached, while a multifunction light can make hooking up easy, even after dark.

Tow-Oriented Tech

Towing features don’t stop with the chassis or the suspension, though. Features like Trailer Light Check, Trailer Brake Check, and Tow Specific Navigation are all designed to help you get where you’re going safely. Additionally, the available Trailer Reverse Steering Control System makes reversing easy, allowing you to steer the trailer with a separate steering knob as the system pilots the truck itself.

Ready to Rev: The 3.6 Liter Pentastar

The most modest engine Ram offers on the 1500 is still a towing beast. The 3.6-liter Pentastar engine is paired with eTorque Mild Hybrid Technology to increase both efficiency and performance while adding torque to the V6 and allowing for a towing capacity of 7,730 pounds.

Best In Class: The 5.7-Liter HEMI V8

The 5.7-liter HEMI V8 can also be paired with the eTorque system, offering up to 395 horsepower and a whopping 410 lb-ft of torque. This engine wins the Ram 1500 the Best-In-Class Available Max Hybrid Towing Capacity at up to 12,750 pounds. That’s an incredible amount of towing capacity.

Raw Power: The Supercharged 6.2-Liter HEMI V8

The 6.2-liter HEMI V8 trades the efficiency of the eTorque system for the raw power of a supercharger, pumping out a heart-pounding 702 horsepower and seat-pushing 650 lb-ft of torque. While that doesn’t translate into higher towing capacity than the 5.7-liter, it does translate into an exhilarating driving experience, letting the Ram 1500 TRX accelerate from zero to sixty in a hair-raising 4.5 seconds.
